It’s safe to say that the biggest competitor brands of Bayliner are Tahoe, Hurricane, Starcraft, Stingray, and Carolina Skiff.

If you want to compare the boats built by these manufacturers with the latest Bayliner boats, you are in the right place.

We at PowerSportsGuide compared them head-to-head by the numbers!

Which Boats Are Comparable to Bayliner Elements?

Bayliner Element M15

If you are looking for Bayliner Element alternatives, you should take a look at the fleets of Tahoe, Starcraft, Stingray, and Hurricane.

While the entire Bayliner Element series is built on the patented M-hulls, the competitors still feature a V-shaped hull design.

The smallest Bayliner in this breed is the Element M15. Although this boat is the only 15-footer deck boat in the marketplace, its direct competitor could be the 16-footer Tahoe T16.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Element M15

15’2″

5

50 HP

1,385 lbs.

Tahoe T16

16’5″

6

75 HP

1,500 lbs.

Bayliner Element M17

As the name suggests, the Element Bayliner M17 is built on a 17-foot M-shaped hull. It can be opted with either a 60, 75, or 90hp Mercury outboard.

Rival deck boats in this class are the Stingray 172SC and the Starcraft SVX 171 OB. The latter comes with a remarkable people capacity of 10.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Element M17

17’0″

7

90 HP

1,984 lbs.

Stingray 172SC

17’3″

7

90 HP

1,900 lbs.

Starcraft SVX 171 OB

17’4″

10

115 HP

2,126 lbs.

Bayliner Element E18

When it comes to the 18-footer class, one of the biggest competitors of the Bayliner Element E18 is arguably the Tahoe T18.

They are not only of the same weight, but both can also carry a crew of 9 with ease.

Bayliner Element M19

Worthy competitors of the 19-footer Element M19 are the Stingray 182SC, the Starcraft SVX 191 OB, and the Hurricane Sundeck Sport 188 OB.

Each of these boats comes with a 19-foot hull and various outboard engine options.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Element M19

19′

9

115 HP

2,399 lbs.

Stingray 182SC

19’1′

9

115 HP

2,050 lbs.

Starcraft SVX 191 OB

18’11”

12

150 HP

2,378 lbs.

Hurricane Sundeck Sport 188 OB

18’10”

10

200 HP

2,425 lbs.

Element E21

Based on our research, the closest competitors of the Bayliner Element E21 are the Starcraft SVX 211 OB, Hurricane Sundeck Sport 201 OB, and the Stingray 192 SC.

Like the Bayliner, the latter can carry a crew of 10, while the others can carry 14 and 12 people, respectively.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Element E21

20’8″

10

150 HP

2,645 lbs.

Starcraft SVX 211 OB

20’9″

14

200 HP

2,685 lbs.

Stingray 192 SC

20’1″

10

200 HP

2,700 lbs.

Hurricane Sundeck Sport 201 OB

20’1′

12

200 HP

2,475 lbs.

What are the Alternatives to the Bayliner DX Deck Boats?

Bayliner DX2000

The closest competitor of the Bayliner DX2000 outboard is the Tahoe 1950 since these boats come with very similar capacities and features.

We also have to mention the popular Hurricane Sundeck 218 OB.

Even though this boat is slightly shorter, it’s still rated at 10 people.

Compared to the Bayliner and the Tahoe, this model is significantly lighter and can be opted with a 200hp outboard.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner DX2000

19’7″

10

150 HP

2,810 lbs.

Tahoe 1950

19’5″

10

175 HP

3,135 lbs.

Hurricane Sundeck 218 OB

18’10”

10

200 HP

2,450 lbs.

Bayliner DX2050

The Bayliner DX2050 is the sterndrive variation of the popular DX2000.

In this class, one of the closest rivals to the Bayliner is the Hurricane Sundeck Sport 205 IO.

Both of these boats weigh around 3,500-3,600 pounds and are available with a 250hp MerCruiser sterndrive engine.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner DX2050 IO

19’7″

9

250 HP

3,497 lbs.

Hurricane Sundeck Sport 205 IO

20’9″

10

250 HP

3,600 lbs.

Bayliner DX2200

Flagship Bayliner deck boats are arguably the DX2200/DX2250. The former can be rigged with Mercury outboards with a maximum engine power of 225hp.

Worthy competitors of this boat are the Hurricane SunDeck 217 OB, the Tahoe 2150, and the Stingray 212SC.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner DX2200 OB

21’7″

12

225 HP

3,805 lbs.

Hurricane SunDeck 217 OB

21’5″

14

225 HP

2,700 lbs.

Tahoe 2150

21’1″

11

225 HP

3,235 lbs.

Stingray 212SC

21’11”

12

200 HP

3,100 lbs.

Bayliner DX2250

The Bayliner DX2250 is available with either 200hp or 250hp MerCruiser sterndrive engines.

If you are looking for an alternative to this model, you may want to take a close look at the Starcraft SVX IO 210.

Compared to the Bayliner, this boat is significantly lighter and comes with slightly larger capacities.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner DX2250

21’7″

11

350 HP

3,999 lbs.

Starcraft SVX IO 210

21’5″

12

250 HP

3,378 lbs.

What are the Alternatives to the Bayliner VR Bowriders?

Bayliner VR4

Among the 19-footer bowriders, the Bayliner VR4 competes with the Tahoe 185S.

Despite its dual console architecture, the Stingray 191DC is also a worthy option to consider in this class.

This boat comes standard with a windshield and can accommodate 9 people due to its roomier deck space.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner VR4 Bowrider OB

18’9″

7

150 HP

2,822 lbs.

Tahoe 185 S

18’5″

8

150 HP

2,270 lbs.

Stingray 191DC

19’1″

9

115 HP

2,000 lbs.

Bayliner VR5

Like in the lower class, in the 21-footer category, we can also find the Bayliner VR5 Bowrider competing with the Tahoe 210S.

These can be fitted with outboard motors with a maximum power of 250 and 225hp, respectively.

And here’s the slightly smaller, 20-footer Stingray 201DC dual console. It can carry a group of 10 and can be fitted with an outboard up to 200hp.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner VR5 Bowrider OB

20’7″

9

250 HP

3,342 lbs.

Tahoe 210S

21’5″

10

225 HP

3,225 lbs.

Stingray 201DC

20’1″

10

200 HP

2,900 lbs.

Bayliner VR6

It’s safe to say that one of the closest competitors of the Bayliner VR6 outboard is the Stingray 211DC.

Although the latter is almost a foot shorter, it’s much lighter and can carry a larger crew thanks to its deck boat origins. On top of that, it can be rigged with a more powerful outboard motor.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner VR6 Bowrider OB

22’7″

10

200 HP

3,797 lbs.

Stingray 211DC

21’8″

12

225 HP

3,248 lbs.

The Bayliner VR6 I/O is the sterndrive equivalent to the VR6 Outboard.

This boat is comparable to the Starcraft SVX IO 230 dual console deck boat, which is a bit larger in dimensions and can carry a crew of 14.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner VR6 Bowrider

22’7″

10

250 HP

3,797 lbs.

Starcraft SVX IO 230

23’4″

14

300 HP

3,658 lbs.

What are the Alternatives to the Bayliner Trophy Fishing Boats?

Trophy T18Bay

The Bayliner Trophy T18Bay is released as the smallest fishing Bayliner. This center console boat is built on the 18-footer M-hull and can be rigged with a Mercury outboard up to 115hp.

Competitor models in this breed include the Carolina Skiff 19 Ultra Elite and the slightly smaller Stingray 173CC.

You can expect the dry weight of these boats to be in the ballpark of 2,000-2,266 pounds.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Trophy T18Bay

18’2″

6

115 HP

2,000 lbs.

Stingray 173CC

17’3″

7

90 HP

2,100 lbs.

Carolina Skiff 19 Ultra Elite

18’11”

10

150 HP

2,266 lbs.

Trophy T21Bay

The Bayliner T21Bay is the bigger brother of the entry-level T18Bay.

It features a 21-footer M-hull, center console deck architecture, and can be fitted with Mercury outboards up to 150hp.

There are many great alternatives to this boat, and some of them are the Stingray 206CC and the Carolina Skiff 21 LS.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Trophy T21Bay

20’8″

10

150 HP

2,645 lbs.

Stingray 206CC

20’1″

9

200 HP

2,700 lbs.

Carolina Skiff 21 LS

21’1″

10

175 HP

2,100 lbs.

Bayliner Trophy T22CC

Unlike the “Bay” series, the Bayliner T22CC is built on a standard deep-V hull.

Even though they are slightly smaller and lighter, the Mako 214CC and the Stingray 216CC come with very similar capacities.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Trophy T22CC

22’7″

10

300 HP

4,000 lbs.

Mako 214CC

21’5″

10

250 HP

3,735 lbs.

Stingray 216CC

21’8″

10

225 HP

3,150 lbs.

Trophy T24CC

The flagship Bayliner fishing boat is the Trophy T24CC, which can be fitted with Mercury outboards up to 300hp.

Competitors of this Bayliner are the Stingray 236CC and the Carolina Skiff 23 LS.

Although each of them can accommodate 12 people, the latter is significantly lighter and has a flatter tri-V hull design. Due to these features, the Carolina Skiff 23 LS is less seaworthy than the other two models.

Comparison Chart:

Model

Length (ft.)

People Capacity

Max HP

Dry Weight

Bayliner Trophy T24CC

24′

12

300 HP

4,466 lbs.

Carolina Skiff 23 LS

23’2″

12

200 HP

2,550 lbs.

Stingray 236CC

23’8″

12

300 HP

3,648 lbs.

Takeaways

When it comes to deck boats and bowriders, the best alternatives to Bayliner boats are Tahoe, Hurricane, Stingray, and Starcraft boats.

Regarding the center console class, some of the major competitors are Stingray, Carolina Skiff, and Mako.

But generally speaking, each of these manufacturers produces solid boats, so you can’t go wrong with any of them!

Takeaways – How Big is the Gas Tank on a Bayliner Boat?

As a takeaway, we’ve answered the most common questions on the topic!

How big is the gas tank on a Bayliner boat?

The fuel capacity of the latest Bayliner boats in the US lineup is somewhere between 12 and 100 US gallons.

In contrast, the fuel tank of the largest vintage Bayliner motor yachts can reach an incredible range of 200-800 gallons.

Which Bayliner has the smallest fuel tank?

You can find the smallest fuel tank in the Element M15 which has a limited capacity of 12 gallons.

Which Bayliner has the largest fuel tank?

When it comes to the latest Bayliner lineup, you can find the largest fuel tank in the Trophy T24CC. This sizeable fuel cell can accommodate 100 gallons of fuel.

However, the largest Bayliner tank was in the 5788 Pilothouse motor yacht.

This amazing vessel was engineered with an 800-gallon twin fuel tank configuration, split into a 400-gallon port fuel tank, and a 400-gallon starboard fuel tank.

How much fuel does a Bayliner Capri hold?

As a rule of thumb, the fuel consumption of Bayliner boats (latest US models) is somewhere between 4 and 25 gph, which translates to 7-2 mpg at WOT. At best cruising speed, these figures drop to 2-7 gph and 9-4 mpg.

To be more precise, average gph figures by category are as follows (at WOT):

Bayliner Element: 4-14 gph

Bayliner DX: 12-20 gph

Bayliner VR: 12-19 gph

Bayliner Trophy: 10-25 gph

If you want to find out more about the fuel economy of Bayliner boats and compare their mpg and gph figures in one chart, this post is for you.

We at PowerSportsGuide have compiled all you need to know under one roof!

How Much Fuel Does a Bayliner Use?

In this post, we’ve listed some ballpark figures that have been pulled from real-world tests.

Note that factors such as the engine option, propeller dimensions, load, weight, water conditions, etc. may affect consumption!

How Much Fuel Does a Bayliner Element Use?

The popular Bayliner Elements burn 3.5-14 gph at WOT while getting 7.2-3 mpg. At best cruising speed, the fuel economy of these boats is reduced to 2-4.3 gph and 9.2-4.7 mpg.

Thanks to their patented M-hull design, Bayliner Elements can be rigged with smaller outboard motors than competitor vessels. What’s more, they can easily get on plane and have a smaller draft than their V-shaped brothers.

This translates to better fuel economy and better fuel range.

The most fuel-efficient Bayliner is arguably the Element M15 rigged with the base 40hp Mercury outboard.

This setup only burns 2.1 gph and gets an impressive 9.2 mpg while cruising at 4500 RPM. At this revolution, the boat can reach a speed of 19-20 mph and a cruising range of 110 miles.

But even if you’re hard on the throttle, the maximum fuel consumption of the M15 only jumps up to 3.8 gph. This converts to 7.2 mpg and a fuel range of 86 miles.

On the other end of the spectrum, you can find the flagship Bayliner Element, the E21.

Despite its 21-foot hull, the Element E21 only burns roughly 14 gph while running at its top speed of 42 mph. Since the boat gets approximately 3 mpg at WOT, its 40-gallon fuel tank ensures a fuel range of 120-130 miles.

When it comes to the best cruising speed, you can expect to get 4.7 mpg and 5 gph which turns into a whopping range of 208 miles.

How Much Fuel Does a Bayliner DX Deck Boat Use?

Based on our research, the fuel economy of a Bayliner DX deck boat can be anywhere from 12-21 gph at WOT and 5-7 gph while cruising.

The thirstiest model in this class is the DX2250 with the more powerful, MerCruiser 250 HP sterndrive engine option.

When boating at full throttle, this configuration burns 20 gph at 42-43 mph while getting 2 mpg. If you hold the horses back, these numbers can be tamed back to 7 gph at 26-27 mph.

The fuel range at this speed is 180-190 miles since the boat only gets 3.5-4.0 mpg.

Other boats in this class come with noticeably better fuel consumption figures, including the outboard-powered DX2200, as well as the 20-footer DX2000/DX2050 series.

How Much Fuel Does a Bayliner VR Bowrider Use?

The Bayliner VR Bowrider series comes with standard deep-V hulls, which are 19-23 feet long. You can expect the fuel economy of these boats to be in the ballpark of 12-19 gph at WOT and 4-8 gph at best cruising speed.

These popular boats can be fitted with either 115-200hp Mercury outboards or 200-250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive engines. The latter is prone to burning more fuel due to its heavier weight and larger displacement.

The flagship model in this breed is the VR6 housing a 250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI engine.

This configuration burns 19-20 gph at its top speed of 50-52 mph while getting 2.5-3.0 mpg. At the best cruising speed of 18-20 mph, its fuel consumption drops to 4-4.5 gph, which converts to 4-4.5 mpg.

Interestingly, the best cruising speed of the smaller VR5 fitted with the same 250hp MerCruiser engine is 32-34 mph.

When boating at this healthy speed, the VR5 burns 8 gph while getting 4.2 mpg, which increases to 19.2 gph/2.6 mpg at its top speed of 50.5 mph.

How Much Fuel Does a Bayliner Trophy Use?

The Bayliner Trophy line includes many great center console fishing boats, marketed with 90-300hp Mercury outboards. These vessels can burn anywhere from 10 to 25 gph at WOT and 3.5-9 gph at best cruising speed.

The most fuel-efficient Bayliner Trophy is the T18Bay, and with good reason. This boat is built on the 18-footer M-hull borrowed from the Element M18 deck boat.

Thanks to this unique hull, the T18Bay can be rigged with relatively small, 90 or 115hp Mercury outboards. Rigged with the optional 115hp outboard option, the boat burns 10.2 gph at 36 mph while getting 3.5 mpg.

The fuel range with the 33-gallon fuel tank is 81 miles at this speed, which can be expanded to 167 while cruising at 20.4 mph. At this speed, the boat burns as little as 3.7 gph and gets 5.6 mpg.

Another M-hull-based Bayliner Trophy is the T21Bay, which can be rigged with either 115 or 150hp engines. Depending on the engine variant, this boat can burn anywhere from 8-12 gph at WOT and 4-5 gph at 4000 RPM.

Besides the M-hulled Trophy models, another breed in this line is the “CC” class. These boats enjoy deep-V hulls which are 20, 22, or 24 inches in length, and can be opted with 115-300hp outboard motors.

The smallest and most fuel-efficient T20CC can be fitted with 115-175hp Mercury outboards. Utilizing the most powerful 175hp Mercury Pro XS, it burns 13.3 gph at its top speed of 42 mph while getting 2.6 mpg.

Cruising at 22.2 mph, the fuel consumption figures shrink to 5.6 gph and 3.9 mpg.

The fuel ranges with these speeds are 141 miles and 217 miles, respectively.

The mid-size V-hulled Bayliner Trophy is the T22CC, which is marketed with 150-300hp Mercury outboards.

As reported by this factory test, this boat fitted with a single 250hp Mercury 4-stroke outboard can burn 22.5 gph at 50 mph while getting 2.2 mpg. The fuel range of this setup is 144 miles at WOT, thanks to its 65-gallon fuel tank.

Cruising at a comfortable speed of 25.7 mph, the T22CC uses 5.6 gallons of gas per hour while getting 5.6 mpg. In this case, the fuel range of the boat is a remarkable 252 miles.

The largest production Bayliner in the US, the Trophy T24CC, can be rigged with 225, 250, or 300hp outboards.

According to the detailed review below, you can expect the fuel consumption of this boat to be 25 gph at its top speed of 45-50 mph. Since the boat gets 2 mpg, its sizeable 100-gallon fuel tank ensures a fuel range of 200 miles, even when boating at WOT.

Element (deck boat): 1,358-2,645 lb. (w/trailer: 1,755-3,587 lbs.)

DX (deck boat): 2,810-3,999 lb.
If you want to find out more about the weight of the various Bayliner models and compare them in one weight list, this post is for you.

We at PowerSportsGuide have compiled all you need to know under one roof!

How Much Does a Bayliner Weigh?

First of all, we‘ve listed the dry weights of the 2023 Bayliner US models based on their hull length.

How Much Does a 15 ft. Bayliner Boat Weigh?

The lightest Bayliner boat right now is the Element M15, built on the smallest M-hull available.

You can expect the dry weight of this model to be 1,385 pounds with the base engine option. Placed on the trailer, the overall weight jumps up to 1,755 pounds.

Since this boat houses a tiny 12-gallon tank, a full tank of gas won’t significantly increase the overall weight of the setup.

The only production 17-foot Bayliner, the M17 deck boat, weighs 1,984 pounds without the trailer and 2,457 pounds with it.

Just like its sibling, the M17 is also built on the patented M-hull and is available with 60, 75, and 90hp Mercury outboards.

The weights shown above apply to the boats with a 60hp power source, while the more powerful engine options can slightly increase their overall weight.

How Much Does an 18-foot Bayliner Boat Weigh?

The available 18-foot Bayliner boats with the 90hp engine option weigh 2,000 pounds without a trailer and 2,473-2,627 with one.

How Big is a Bayliner Boat?

First of all, we‘ve reviewed the advertised dimensions of the 2023 Bayliners (US models) by category.

Bayliner Element Dimensions

You can find the smallest Bayliner boats in the Element line, including the M15, M17, E18, M19, and E21.

Each of these entry-level deck boats is built on the patented, Bayliner-exclusive M-hull.

The smallest Bayliner Element is the M15, measuring 15’2” in length and 6’7” in width and rated for 5 people. The storage length of this boat is only 17’5” so it fits in many standard garages.

On the other end of the spectrum, you can find the largest Bayliner Element, the E21. Built on a 20’8” long and 7’9” wide hull, this boat can carry 10 people along with plenty of gear.

Between these two extremes, there are mid-sized models christened the M17, E18, and M19.

They are also built on standard V-shaped hulls and enjoy high-quality materials and features.

You can find two models in this breed, both are available with either inboard or outboard engine configurations.

The smaller DX Bayliners are the DX2000 (OB)/DX2050 (I/O), which share the same hull measuring 19’7” in length and 8’1” in width.

Their bigger brothers, the DX2200 (OB)/DX2250 (I/O) come with a larger hull, measuring 21’7” in length.

Bayliner Trophy Dimensions

Bayliner’s Trophy boats feature center console deck configurations designed with fishing adventures in mind.

There are five models in the breed, the smaller ones borrow their M-hulls from the Element series.

Labeled as T18Bay and T21Bay, these M-hull-based Bayliner Trophies are designed for bays, inlets, and inland waters.

The measurements of these models are basically identical to their Element equivalents.

The smallest fishing Bayliner, the Trophy T18Bay is 18’2” long and 7’5” wide and rated for 6 people.

If you need more capacity, the T21Bay can carry a crew of 10 thanks to its 20’8” long M-hull.

Built for rougher waters and offshore fishing adventures, the T20CC, T22CC, and T24CC feature massive deep-V hulls.

The entry-level T20CC comes with a 22’6” hull rated for 8 people, while the T22CC can carry 10.

Takeaways – How Big is a Bayliner?

As a takeaway, we’ve answered the most common questions on the topic!

How big is a Bayliner?

The length of production Bayliners (US models) ranges from 15’2” up to 24’ while their average width is 6’7” to 8’6”.

In contrast, the largest Bayliner motor yachts can reach an incredible 60 feet. To the regret of many Bayliner enthusiasts, these boats are no longer in production.

Which Bayliner boat is the smallest?

The smallest Bayliner in the latest US lineup is the Element M15 built on the tiny 15-foot M hull.

Although it’s no longer sold in the States, one of the smallest Bayliner bowriders ever built was the BR160 Outboard. This best-selling Bayliner measured 16’2” in length and 7’5” in width.

Which Bayliner boat is the largest?

The largest Bayliner boat ever built was arguably the Bayliner 5788 motor yacht with an overall length of 59 feet.

Regarding the latest US lineup, the largest Bayliner is the Trophy T24CC, which measures 24 feet in length, and 8’6” in width.

To be more precise, the available engines and their horsepower ratings in each class are as follows:

Element (Deck boat): 40-150hp (OB only)

DX (Deck boat): 115-250hp (OB or I/O)

VR (Bowrider): 115-250hp (OB or I/O)

Trophy (Center Console): 90-300hp (OB only)

If you want to find out more about the various Bayliner engines and their power ratings, this post is for you.

We at PowerSportsGuide have compiled all you need to know under one roof!

What Kind of Engines Do Bayliners Have?

As a rule of thumb, Bayliner boats in the US lineup are marketed with 150-250hp MerCruiser sterndrive or 4-stroke 40-300hp Mercury outboard engines. This is no surprise since both Bayliner and Mercury brands are part of Brunswick Group’s fleet.

These engines are known for durability and reliability, which is why they are also used in many other boat brands aside from Bayliner.

In this first section, we’re going to review the available engine options of the 2023 Bayliners (US models).

Bayliner Element Engines

As a rule of thumb, Bayliner Elements are exclusively marketed with Mercury outboard motors with an engine power of up to 150hp.

Thanks to their unique M-hull, these boats can be rigged with smaller engines than competitor models.

The entry-level model in this breed is the Element M15, which can be ordered with lightweight 40 or 50hp Mercury outboards.

Its bigger brother, the Element M17 is available with three different engine options, including 60, 75, and 90hp Mercury outboards.

Mid-sized models in the Element family are the popular E18 and M19, both marketed with 90 and 115hp Mercury motors.

If you are looking for the most powerful Bayliner Element, the E21 is for you. Featuring a 21-foot hull, this boat can be fitted with either a 115 or a 150hp motor.

Bayliner DX Engines

While the Element family is marketed as entry-level deck boats, the DX series represents a higher class in Bayliner’s deck boat line.

They come with much heavier and larger (19’7”-21’7”) hulls that require significantly more engine power.

There are two different boats in this breed, both are available with an outboard or a sterndrive engine configuration.

The most affordable DX Bayliner is the 20-footer DX2000, offered with 115 or 150hp Mercury outboards.

Its sterndrive equivalent is the DX2050, which comes with 200 or 250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive engines.

The more advanced outboard model in this breed is the DX2200, built on a 22-foot hull. This boat can be ordered with either a 150 or 200hp Mercury outboard.

Although it’s rated at 350hp, the DX2250 shares its 200 and 250hp sterndrive engines with the DX2050.

Available engines of the Bayliner DX Line include:

Bayliner DX2000
115/150hp Mercury OB (Max: 150hp)

Bayliner DX2200
150/200hp Mercury OB (Max: 225hp)

Bayliner VR Engines

The deservedly popular Bayliner VR family enjoys traditional deep-V hulls with a length of 19-23 feet. These bowriders can be fitted with either Mercury outboards or MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive engines.

Engine options and HP ratings of Bayliner VR Bowriders include:

2023 Bayliner Trophy Series

The Bayliner Trophy line includes many great center console fishing boats, which are available with 90-300hp Mercury outboard motors.

There are two different types of boats in this class, the M-hull-based “Bay” and the larger “CC” series built on regular deep-V hulls.

The 18-footer T18Bay shares its hull with the Element E18 and can be purchased with either a 90 or 115hp Mercury outboard.

Its bigger brother, the T21Bay is a center console variation of the E21 deck boat. The base engine of this boat is a 115hp Mercury but the 150hp motor comes as an option.

Both of these boats are intended for calmer waters like inlets, bays, or inland waters.

In contrast, the Trophy T20CC, T22CC, and T24CC have V-shaped hulls, which can even handle offshore conditions.

The T20CC can be rigged with 115-175hp outboards, while the maximum power of the T22CC and T24CC is a whopping 300hp.

Available Mercury outboards of Bayliner Trophy boats include:

Bayliner T18Bay: 90/115hp

Bayliner T21Bay: 115/150hp

Bayliner T20CC: 115/150/175hp

Bayliner T22CC: 150/175/200/250/300hp

Bayliner T24CC: 225/250/300hp

Takeaways

As a takeaway, we’ve answered the most common questions on the topic!

What kind of engines do Bayliners have?

As a rule of thumb, production Bayliners in the States are available with either Mercury outboards or MerCruiser sterndrive engines.

Regarding older models, smaller cabin cruisers came with MerCruiser sterndrive engines.

Larger cruisers and Bayliner motor yachts were manufactured with either MerCruiser, MAN, Cummins, or Hino engines.

How much HP do Bayliners have?

You can expect the HP ratings of production Bayliner boats to be anywhere from 40 to 300hp. The engine power of vintage models averages between 60 and 1220hp.

Which Bayliner boat has the smallest engine?

The smallest Bayliner right now is the 15-footer Element M15, which can be rigged with a lightweight 40hp Mercury outboard.

Thanks to its special M-hull design, this boat can get on plane with this small an engine!

Which Bayliner boat is the most powerful?

When it comes to the US lineup, the most powerful Bayliner boats are the Trophy T22CC and T24CC, and both are available with a 300hp outboard engine option.

The most powerful Bayliner ever built was arguably the 5788 Pilothouse, powered by two 610hp MAN inboard diesel engines.

Which motor is in a Bayliner Capri?

Bayliner Capri bowriders were marketed with both outboard motors and 135-250hp MerCruiser sterndrive engines.

Examples:

Bayliner Capri 175: 135hp Inline-4 MerCruiser Sterndrive

Bayliner Capri 185: 190hp V6 MerCruiser Sterndrive

Bayliner Capri 215: 250hp 5.7L V8 MerCruiser Sterndrive

Bayliner Capri 2050: 230hp MerCruiser 4.3 LX

Bayliner Capri 2350: 220hp V6 MerCruiser 5.0L Alpha I engine at

Which motor is in a Bayliner Ciera?

Bayliner Ciera cruisers were manufactured with gasoline MerCruiser sterndrive engines. Smaller models were fitted with a single220-300hp power source, while the largest boats in this breed enjoyed a twin (2x220hp) engine configuration.

Which motor is in a Bayliner Avanti?

Compared to the Ciera line, Bayliner Avantis were significantly larger models. This is why these boats were designed with twin MerCruiser or Cummins engines with a total power of 450-700hp.

How Fast Can a Bayliner Go?

(Disclaimer: Note that the top speed of a Bayliner may depend on many factors like the prop size, load, and environmental conditions. Therefore, please consider our numbers as ballpark figures.)

How Fast Can a Bayliner Element Go?

Entry-level Bayliner Elements can hit a top speed of 29-43 mph depending on their hull size and engine option.

Each of these boats enjoys the patented M-hull design. This special hull configuration offers very good out-of-the-hole acceleration and top speed even with relatively small engines.

According to this factory test, a Bayliner Element M15 fitted with a 4-stroke Mercury 40hp engine could hit a top speed of 29.1 mph at 6200 RPM. The cruising speed of this setup is about 20 mph at 4500 RPM. And it can reach this speed in 8.44 seconds.

Thanks to its small engine, this boat gets outstanding fuel economy as well.

Its bigger brother, the Element M17 tops out at 35-36 mph with the base 60hp motor, but it can hit around 38-40 mph with the 90hp option.

The 18-footer Element E18 is available with either 90hp or 115hp outboard motors, which ensure top speeds of 35-37 and 40-42 mph respectively.

These power sources are also offered for the 19-footer Element M19, which tops out at 38-40 mph with the optional 115hp motor.

If you are looking for the fastest Bayliner Element, the E21 is for you.

Despite its dry weight of 2,645 pounds, this boat can do 40-41 mph with the base 115hp motor, while the 150hp option it can hit close to 42-43 mph.

How Fast Can a Bayliner DX Deck Boat Go?

The top speed of a Bayliner DX deck boat can be anywhere from 40 to 47 mph. These boats are available with both outboard and sterndrive engines with engine power up to 250 HP.

The entry-level model in this breed is the DX2000, which is marketed with a 20-foot hull fitted with 115/150hp outboards.

Rigged with the optional 4-stroke Mercury 150hp outboard, the DX2000 could hit a top speed of 45-47 mph while it cruises 26-28 mph.

The performance of its sterndrive-powered variant, the DX2050 more than likely falls into the same ballpark. Although this model is significantly heavier, it enjoys a much more powerful, MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI engine rated at 200 or 250hp.

Fitted with a 200hp Mercury outboard, the 22-footer DX2200 can reach a top speed of 40-42 mph, while its cruising speed is 28-30 mph.

Its sterndrive counterpart (DX2250) offers similar performance under the same external circumstances.

A factory report from Mercury Marine shows that the top end of the DX2250 fitted with the optional 250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive engine was 43.4 mph at 5200 RPM.

The best cruising speed of this boat was 26.5 mph at 3500 RPM.

How Fast Can a Bayliner VR Bowrider Go?

The top speed of production Bayliner bowrider boats varies between 44-52 mph.

As an example, the entry-level, 19-footer VR4 fitted with a 150hp outboard can reach shy of 50 mph and easily cruise in the mid-20s.

The more advanced VR5 has a 21-foot hull and can be ordered with either a 115/150hp outboard or 200/250hp sterndrive propulsion.

Based on this test, the VR5 with a 250hp MerCruiser 4.5L engine topped out at 50.5 mph while its best cruising speed was 27-28 mph at 3000 RPM.

As far as acceleration goes, the VR5 got on plane in 4-5 seconds and reached 30 mph in 9-10 seconds.

The roomier VR5 OB fitted with a 150hp Mercury outboard reaches a top speed of 44-46 mph. Its cruising speed is roughly 26-27 mph.

How Fast Can a Bayliner Trophy Go?

Thanks to their relatively lightweight hulls, Bayliner Trophy fishing boats are pretty fast. The top speed of these vessels averages between 34 and 55 mph depending on their hull size and engine option.

According to this performance bulletin, the smallest Bayliner Trophy T18Bay rigged with the optional 115hp Mercury outboard can reach a top speed of 35.9 mph at 5500 RPM. Cruising at 3500 RPM, the speed of this boat remains a healthy 20.4 mph.

While the T18Bay and T21Bay are built on the unique M-hulls, the rest of the Trophy lineup have standard deep-V hulls.

The smallest model in this deep-V Trophy class is the T20CC, which tops out at 40-42 mph with a 150hp Mercury outboard.

Its 22-footer variant, the T22CC comes with a wide range of engine options from 150hp up to 300hp.

As an example, the 250hp Mercury 4-stroke engine can propel this boat to a top speed of 50-53 mph while it cruises at 40 mph.

With a maximum engine power of 300hp, this Bayliner could more than likely hit a whopping 55 mph. However, many experts claim that 200-250hp is plenty enough for this boat.

The largest Bayliner Trophy in the latest lineup is the T24CC. Rigged with a 250hp Mercury outboard, this 24-footer center console fishing boat can reach a top speed of 48-50 mph with a light load.
