What Kind of Engines Do Bayliners Have?
As a rule of thumb, Bayliner boats in the US lineup are marketed with 150-250hp MerCruiser sterndrive or 4-stroke 40-300hp Mercury outboard engines. This is no surprise since both Bayliner and Mercury brands are part of Brunswick Group’s fleet.
These engines are known for durability and reliability, which is why they are also used in many other boat brands aside from Bayliner.
In this first section, we’re going to review the available engine options of the 2023 Bayliners (US models).
Bayliner Element Engines
As a rule of thumb, Bayliner Elements are exclusively marketed with Mercury outboard motors with an engine power of up to 150hp.
Thanks to their unique M-hull, these boats can be rigged with smaller engines than competitor models.
The entry-level model in this breed is the Element M15, which can be ordered with lightweight 40 or 50hp Mercury outboards.
Its bigger brother, the Element M17 is available with three different engine options, including 60, 75, and 90hp Mercury outboards.
Mid-sized models in the Element family are the popular E18 and M19, both marketed with 90 and 115hp Mercury motors.
If you are looking for the most powerful Bayliner Element, the E21 is for you. Featuring a 21-foot hull, this boat can be fitted with either a 115 or a 150hp motor.
Available models and engine options in this line include:
- Element M15: 40/50hp Mercury OB (Max: 50hp)
- Element M17: 60/75/90hp Mercury OB (Max: 90hp)
- Element E18: 90/115hp Mercury OB (Max: 125hp)
- Element M19: 90/115hp Mercury OB (Max: 115hp)
- Element E21: 115/150hp Mercury OB (Max: 115hp)
Bayliner DX Engines
While the Element family is marketed as entry-level deck boats, the DX series represents a higher class in Bayliner’s deck boat line.
They come with much heavier and larger (19’7”-21’7”) hulls that require significantly more engine power.
There are two different boats in this breed, both are available with an outboard or a sterndrive engine configuration.
The most affordable DX Bayliner is the 20-footer DX2000, offered with 115 or 150hp Mercury outboards.
Its sterndrive equivalent is the DX2050, which comes with 200 or 250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive engines.
The more advanced outboard model in this breed is the DX2200, built on a 22-foot hull. This boat can be ordered with either a 150 or 200hp Mercury outboard.
Although it’s rated at 350hp, the DX2250 shares its 200 and 250hp sterndrive engines with the DX2050.
Available engines of the Bayliner DX Line include:
- Bayliner DX2000
115/150hp Mercury OB (Max: 150hp)
- Bayliner DX2200
150/200hp Mercury OB (Max: 225hp)
- Bayliner DX2050/DX2250:
200hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive (Alpha 1 Outdrive)
250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive (Bravo 3 Outdrive)
Bayliner VR Engines
The deservedly popular Bayliner VR family enjoys traditional deep-V hulls with a length of 19-23 feet. These bowriders can be fitted with either Mercury outboards or MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive engines.
Engine options and HP ratings of Bayliner VR Bowriders include:
- VR4 Bowrider OB: 115/150hp Mercury OB
- VR4 Bowrider: 200hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive (Alpha 1 Outdrive)
- VR5 Bowrider OB: 115 or 150hp Mercury OB
- VR5 Bowrider: 200/250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive (Alpha 1 Outdrive)
- VR6 Bowrider OB: 150 or 200hp Mercury OB
- VR6 Bowrider: 200/250hp MerCruiser ECT 4.5L MPI Sterndrive (Alpha 1 Outdrive)
2023 Bayliner Trophy Series
The Bayliner Trophy line includes many great center console fishing boats, which are available with 90-300hp Mercury outboard motors.
There are two different types of boats in this class, the M-hull-based “Bay” and the larger “CC” series built on regular deep-V hulls.
The 18-footer T18Bay shares its hull with the Element E18 and can be purchased with either a 90 or 115hp Mercury outboard.
Its bigger brother, the T21Bay is a center console variation of the E21 deck boat. The base engine of this boat is a 115hp Mercury but the 150hp motor comes as an option.
Both of these boats are intended for calmer waters like inlets, bays, or inland waters.
In contrast, the Trophy T20CC, T22CC, and T24CC have V-shaped hulls, which can even handle offshore conditions.
The T20CC can be rigged with 115-175hp outboards, while the maximum power of the T22CC and T24CC is a whopping 300hp.
Available Mercury outboards of Bayliner Trophy boats include:
- Bayliner T18Bay: 90/115hp
- Bayliner T21Bay: 115/150hp
- Bayliner T20CC: 115/150/175hp
- Bayliner T22CC: 150/175/200/250/300hp
